The seaside villages of the Gulf of Tigullio
The Gulf of Tigullio is home to some of the most fascinating villages in Liguria. From Santa Margherita Ligure to Sestri Levante, the towns in this area offer a perfect combination of natural beauty, excellent gastronomy and rich culture.
The most beautiful villages and beaches of the Gulf of Tigullio
The best-known location in the Gulf of Tigullio is certainly Santa Margherita Ligure. In this village, you can stroll among the evocative historic villas, admire the lush flower gardens and enjoy the picturesque marina. Here, Punta Pedale is the ideal choice for a refreshing dip.
If you are looking for a chic destination, you must go to Portofino, a village frequented by celebrities and hiking enthusiasts. Following a path that starts from the main square you can reach Castello Brown, a sixteenth-century fortress from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Ligurian Sea.
On the other side of the mountain, there is Camogli, a picturesque fishing village with colorful houses overlooking the sea, while halfway between Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino, you will find Paraggi. Its small beach of fine sand is perfect for snorkelers.
Moving east, you will come across Rapallo, the largest village in the area, which has enchanted famous people such as Yeats, Nietzche and Hemingway. Thanks to the panoramic walks along the coast, the suggestive arcades and the equipped beaches, Zoagli is the ideal destination for families.
The medieval village of Chiavari is full of cultural attractions, such as the Cathedral of Nostra Signora dell'Orto and Palazzo Rocca, while Sestri Levante is famous above all for its sea. The Bay of Fables and the Bay of Silence, with their calm waters and fine sand, attract visitors from all over the world every year.
A day trip not to be missed? The medieval abbey of San Fruttuoso, reachable only by sea or via hiking trails, is a true jewel of the Ligurian coast. In addition to enjoy the picturesque coastal landscape from land, we recommend diving into the crystal clear waters of its secluded bay in search of the submerged statue of Christ of the Abyss.
